40p A5 perfect-bound zine, motion design, poster design
During my time at ArtCenter, I was assigned to tackle the topic of Maya Deren, her body of work, and a contrasting idea of my choice in a term-long project. The main focus of my research was Deren's emphasis on movement and the human body, as well as the dreamlike quality of her films. As a foil to her, I chose no wave, an avant-garde music movement that defied definition and was rife with harsh, abrasive noise and a nihilistic attitude. I designed my zine with this in mind, and utilized both hand-drawn texture and mesh texture on vellum as an overlay for some of my spreads. I carried these design sensibilities over into the motion piece and poster designed to complement the zine.
